Guest Napper #134 – Waiting for Weather

This week, those of us in the D.C. area who aren’t petrified by the prospect of (gasp) WINTRY MIX were briefly tantalized by the possibility of the first light snow of the season. Sadly for Santa watchers, all we got was a frigid downpour – in my opinion, the worst type of gloomy weather.

Nevertheless, my boys wore their galoshes and coats and stomped with great purpose in every puddle on the sidewalk. It looks like this little William may not have made it to the puddle-jumping stage. It was so, you know, EXHAUSTING.

Boots, check. Snacks, check. Sled dogzzzzz???

Well, he’ll be ready for the next one. For today, the sun is shining and naps are in the forecast. Happy Wednesday to all!

Guest Napper #29 Redux – Cuddly Couch Potatoes

Ahhh, Thanksgiving. The holiday when everyone stuffs themselves to the gills and then collapses on the couch while  the hosts do the dishes.  Or maybe just Mom. Anyway, it looks like our little darlings who made such a sensation with their dog-and-baby nap over a year ago are back.

And, boy, are they sleepy.

Um…you’re kicking my hiney, Bud.

These two are just doggone adorable, is what it is.

Thankful for good friends. Thankful for good naps. Thankful for all of it.

Happy Monday!

Guest Napper #133 – Guardian of the Gifts

This has been a new kind of holiday season for me, because both of my boys have become aware of Santa at the same time. Every time they ask for something they saw on TV, I tell them to go tell the Elf on the Shelf. Cormac turned to me yesterday and earnestly whispered, “Mama, I have so many questions for Santa.”

When Christmas morning arrives and they’re both wound up tight as little springs, they will experience the frenzy of giving, become overwhelmed by their bounty (I’d say they top out after two gifts) and collapse in an ill-timed nap after eating too much chocolate Santa.

I’m sure some of your kids have done the same. However, if you think you’ve seen the best collapse-on-the-toys nap, pardon me, but you don’t know Jack.

Protect the Stash

One thing Jack’s got going for him is that he already knows to put his toys in his toybox…and then shield them with his own body. No sibling is going to get through to this Christmas haul.

Even in sleep, he exhibits admirable defensive skills. Or is he poised to wake and catch Santa in the act of going back up the chimney?

What? What? I’m awake…zzzzzz.

Looks like Cookie Monster is ready to chase after Santa, indignant over the ingestion of that plate of chocolate chip lovelies Jack left out for him by the tree.

Well, okay, it’s probably a little early to be talking about Christmas. I’ll delve back into my treasure trove of naps and find something caused by tryptophan…stay tuned.

Guest Napper #132: Zero Alarm Fire

Both of my boys recently had fire safety week at school, and I tell you, they were pretty excited about it. By the looks of it, Bethany’s daughter Stella is, like, SUPER EXCITED, TOO.

I’m sure it’s hard to get used to the on-call lifestyle of a firefighter. Perhaps we need one more alarm in her three alarm chili, though.

At least she’s wearing something that can get wet…

She is definitely calm under pressure, though. I’m pretty sure she’s going to stop, drop, and roll any second. Aaaaaany second now.

Not ready to navigate the fire pole.

And don’t forget, folks. The end of daylight savings time means it’s time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

…even if you’re NOT heavy sleepers.
